I have bought this type at the dollar store but it did not fit. The basket was too small, could not use at all. I have tried others, checked my neighborhood hardware stores to no avail. They did not fit. I was using one with the top cut out because it was too low, the basket sides caught the hair. The spec measurements bear no relationship to the product. I saw some measurements on another website which I do not remember and decided to try this. THIS ONE FIT was able to cover my popup. Approximate measurements of the basket 1" high, basket top diameter 2 1/8", open basket base diameter 2 1/8", outside diameter which is not important is 5". Most important is that the basket can cover the popup. This one does.

I tried two other (more expensive) hair catchers before I decided to go with this one. The other ones let hair slip underneath. This one doesn't let any hair slip underneath. It does cause a bit of a backup with draining water, but I'd rather that happen than my hair go down the drain.

Although this type may not work for ALL drain types, for those it does fit over, it does prevent hair from going down the drain and thus, less of a headache. Not complete elinmination of har going down but considerably LESS is going down.

I manage an apartment building in NYC and my men spend too much time snaking out drain lines where the residents clog up the drains in the bathtubs with hair and kid's toys and shampoo caps, etc. I've tried some of the other brands of hair stoppers but they prevented hair and debris from going down the drain by...preventing ANYTHING (including water)from going down the drain. This piece is well designed and does the simple job it is asked to do. What can you get for $5 that actually does what it's supposed to do? In NYC a plumber gets about $220 for a house call.

Ok, when you press down hard on the center part into the drain, the outer lip DOES make a good seal against the tub. And the center part gets somewhat of a seal against the inside of the drain. Must be made of a particular kind of plastic conducive to that. That's good news.

Some of the hair gets caught up by the outer ring, which has a bunch of little "thorns" sticking up to catch it.

But the long slits around the sides of the inside of the center part are poor design. When hair piles up in the center of the bottom of the gizmo - - blocking the holes there - - water (and hair) will then try to flow out through the slits.

The section with the slits is only partially sealed against the side of the drain. Not enough to stop all flow of water & hair, but too much of a seal to let water flow freely, so the shower starts backing up in water. And yet the hair is getting through the slits.

I am a Black woman with long, coarse, and very, very thick hair. I "co wash" (washing hair with conditioner) and detangle my hair almost daily when wearing it in a curly, wash and go style. I experience hair loss with daily the washing and it has become much more of a problem with the plumbing at my new apartment.
I do see the rare few strands that get through the product, but it is overall amazing at catching pretty much all of it, especially taking into consideration how much hair I can comb out sometimes. For example; I experienced some major breakage after wearing braids -first time in 10 years- for just 2 weeks and this product caught at least 98% of what hair came out- which was a LOT.
The product is easy to set in place when needed and easy to remove to dispose of the hair when done. Wishing I had this years and years ago. Highly recommended.

I love amazon.com, today my order came in with the drain tool Superior Tools 6020 Tub Drain Wrench, Fits 1/2-Inch and 3/8-Inch Ratchet, the Danze drain, and other goodies. The Danze came in a store display plastic form fitting pack so they arrived without scratches. I examined the Danze drain and found it is made from a heavy brass casting that was much nicer than the die cast junk I used to have.

While examining the drain I noticed the O-ring had a gouge in it. I called the tech support line and they sent a new one free of charge via priority mail. That really impressed me.

Using the tool I easily removed the old drain, and using GE Bath Silicone II I installed the Danze drain and the new overflow cover. NO more leaks, a limited lifetime warranty, no more die cast to swell and lose its finish and leak and... Read more

Insofar as I can tell, there are two "standard" sizes of drains. The larger size has coarse threads and the smaller has fine threads. Most tub drains now come with the smaller fine threads on the body of the drain, and a coarse threaded "sleeve" that screws onto the fine thread body. This will fit either size drain, i.e., for the larger drain leave the sleeve on, and for the smaller drain, remove the sleeve, and screw in the fine thread body. Unfortunately, this item comes with a coarse thread body only, which I could not use and had to return.

I purchased this product to replace a similar bathtub drain assembly that had recently failed. The shipping was quick, product well packaged, and everything arrived in good order.
