Although it fit just right and I had a socket wrench in the top for leverage, I was having trouble getting the wrench to move at all.I solved this problem by placing the wrench in the freezer for 20 minutes, then letting it set in the tub drain for 10 minutes to 'shrink' the drain. After that, I was able to slowly unscrew the drain with this wrench and my socket wrench (with extension) in the top. The nice thing about this wrench is that it gives you both sizes. I had to use the other end (smaller end in my case) when putting in my new drain. Easily removed and installed tub drain in two bath tubs. I had to improvise this wrench to remove my second tub drain which was too corroded for the wrench to get sufficinet "grip" on the inside of the drain (the cross piece inside the drain where the wrench normally grabs broke off due to the corrosion). I wrapped the wrench with a piece of rubber liner (cut from a roll of tool box/cabinet shelf liner) which provided just enough grip to unscrew the old drain. Price by Amazon was by far the cheapest price I've seen - cheaper than Lowe's/Home Depot. I was amazed to find this tool was made in Ohio and has a lifetime warranty. It is designed so each end will take a half inch ratchet or extension or a three eighths inch extension. I used the half inch with a breaker bar and the old drain came out nicely.I used RTV (GE bath silicone) and installed the Danze drain Danze D490637PNV Lift and Turn Tub Drain, Polished Nickel PVD using the wonderful tool. Even though I will likely never use it again it was well worth the purchase price to make the job easy. As is says this tool does not damage the drain finish and will also remove square half inch toilet hold down nuts. |
